School year calendars (2024)

Overview

A regular school year is typically from September1 to June30.

By March1^st of each year, school boards are required to submit to the Ministry of Education the school year calendar(s) for the following schoolyear.

School boards must submit school year calendars according to theEducation Actand Regulation304, School Year Calendar, Professional Activity Days. If a school board wishes to submit a school year calendarthat is different from what is requiredin the regulation (including school holidays), the calendar must be approved by the Ministry ofEducation.

Key dates provided below help school boards prepare their school yearcalendars.

Parents and families can contact their school board directly for information regarding the specific school year calendar being used by theboard.
